# Manage roles and invitations

> Invite people to a Business team, change their roles and remove them.

This page shows how Owners and Admins add people to a Business team and manage their roles.

## Roles

| Role | What they can do |
| - | - |
| Owner | Everything, including inviting, changing and removing Owners |
| Admin | Everything, including managing the team, except inviting, changing or removing Owners |
| Member | Find, build, run and publish their own tools, and save logins; no team management |

Managing the team needs the `team:manage` permission, which Owners and Admins hold. A team always keeps at least one Owner.

## Invite people

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the Team page">
    In the Dashboard, open **Team** and go to **Invite people**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Enter addresses and a role">
    Enter one or more email addresses and choose a role, then select **Send invitations**. To invite many people, use **Invite from a CSV file** with the downloadable template.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Wait for them to accept">
    Each person gets an email. Accepting it and signing in makes them a member.
  </Step>
</Steps>

An invitation lasts 7 days; resend or revoke it from the pending list. From the API, send `POST /v1/team/invitations` with one address or up to 500 at once.

## Change a role

On the Team page, change the member's role. From the API, send `PATCH /v1/team/members/{user_id}` with the new `role`: `owner`, `admin` or `member`.

## Remove a member

Select **Remove** beside the member, or send `DELETE /v1/team/members/{user_id}`. Their running jobs stop and their API keys stop working. The logins they created stay with the team.

An Owner or Admin can leave the team from the Team page, unless they are its only Owner. A Member can't leave on their own; an Owner or Admin removes them.

<Accordion title="Details">
  * An address already on the team, in another team or repeated in the request is refused on its own row; the rest are still invited.
  * Inviting someone already invited returns their pending invitation.
  * Lowering an Admin's role or removing anyone also removes the login access that depended on it.
  * See [errors](/errors) for codes such as `last_owner` and `role_change_forbidden`.
