# Connect to Pomerado

> Connect an MCP client to the Pomerado MCP, or create an API key for the REST API.

Connect an agent through MCP, or create an API key to call the REST API from your code.

## Connect an MCP client

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open your client's setup">
    On the Dashboard, open [Connect agent](https://app.pomerado.ai/connect) in the sidebar and choose your client.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Add the server">
    Run the command or paste the config it shows. In Claude Code, for example:

    ```bash theme={null}
    claude mcp add --transport http pomerado 'https://mcp.pomerado.ai/mcp'
    ```
  </Step>

  <Step title="Sign in">
    Your client opens Pomerado's sign-in in your browser. In Claude Code, run `/mcp`, choose pomerado and sign in.
  </Step>
</Steps>

Your agent now lists the Pomerado tools, such as `find_website_tool` and `run_website_tool`.

<Accordion title="Details">
  * To connect with an API key instead, choose With an API key on the same page. Copying that setup creates the key and shows it once. The setup reads the key from the `POMERADO_API_KEY` environment variable, so no config file holds it. Claude Desktop signs in through the browser only.
  * A chat client that supports custom MCP connectors takes the same URL. See [client setup](/guides/connect/client-setup).
  * An agent without a browser can [sign in with a code](/guides/authentication/sign-in-with-a-code).
</Accordion>

## Get an API key

Create a key on the Dashboard under Settings, then [API keys](https://app.pomerado.ai/settings/api-keys), or copy a setup that uses a key on the Connect agent page. The secret is shown once, so store it in a secret manager. Send it as a bearer token:

```bash theme={null}
curl https://api.pomerado.ai/v1/account \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $POMERADO_API_KEY"
```

A new key lasts 90 days and carries your permissions, except managing keys, billing and the team. See [API keys](/guides/authentication/api-keys).
