# Find a tool

> Search Pomerado's tools by task, by site or both.

Search Pomerado's tools by words, by site or both before you run or build one.

## From an MCP client

Ask your agent, for example: "Find a Google Flights tool that searches flights." It calls `find_website_tool`:

```json theme={null}
{ "query": "search flights", "site_url": "google.com" }
```

## From the REST API

```bash theme={null}
curl "https://api.pomerado.ai/v1/tools?query=search+flights&site_url=google.com" \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $POMERADO_API_KEY"
```

## Read the result

Both answer a page of matching tools (abridged here):

```json theme={null}
{
  "data": [
    {
      "id": "tool_0f8e2d1c4b3a49e8a7f6e5d4c3b2a190",
      "name": "search_flights",
      "description": "Search Google Flights for flights between two airports on a date.",
      "site": { "url": "https://www.google.com", "name": "Google Flights" },
      "effect": "read",
      "input_schema": {
        "type": "object",
        "required": ["origin", "destination", "departure_date"],
        "properties": {
          "origin": { "type": "string" },
          "destination": { "type": "string" },
          "departure_date": { "type": "string" }
        }
      },
      "login": null
    }
  ],
  "next_cursor": null
}
```

The fields you need next:

* `id`: pass it as `tool_id` to run the tool.
* `effect`: `read` when the tool only looks things up, `write` when it changes the site.
* `input_schema`: the input the tool takes.
* `login`: the login fields and two-factor methods the tool's sign-in uses, or `null` when it needs no website login.

<Accordion title="Details">
  - With both a query and a site, the first page also has `possible_matches`: other tools on that site that may cover the task even though the words didn't match.
  - Pass `next_cursor` back as `cursor` for the next page.
  - No tool fits? [Build one](/quickstart/build-a-tool).
  - More in [find tools](/guides/tools/find-tools).
</Accordion>

## Next

[Run the tool](/quickstart/run-a-tool).
